Complete casting has been announced for the upcoming London revival of Arthur Miller’s 1994 drama Broken Glass, including Tony and Olivier Award winner Antony Sher reprising his role from show's sell-out run at London's Tricycle Theatre in 2010. The production, directed by Iqbal Khan, will again run at the Tricycle Theatre from August 10 through September 10, then transfer to the West End’s Vaudeville Theatre on September 14 ahead of a September 16 opening night.
In addition to Sher, the cast will feature Caroline Loncq (Margaret Hyman), Brian Protheroe (Stanton Case), Suzan Sylvester (Harriet) and Stanley Townsend (Dr Harry Hyman) and Tara Fitzgerald (Sylvia Gellburg).
Sher received Tony and Olivier Awards for his performance in Stanley, as well as an Olivier Award for Torch Song Trilogy. He appeared in the West End production of Kean and in Royal Shakespeare Company productions of The Tempest, Othello and Richard III. He has written and starred in a number of his own shows, including Primo, which played both in London and on Broadway.
Broken Glass centers on Sylvia and Phillip Gellburg, who after years of marriage come to realize that they hardly know each other. Obsessed with his work at a traditional Wall Street bank and his own desire to assimilate, Phillip has little time for his wife until she suddenly begins suffering from a mysterious paralysis after seeing the events of Kristallnacht in the newspaper. The play opened at Broadway's Booth Theater on April 24, 1994, with a cast that included Ron Rifkin, Frances Conroy, Amy Irving and David Dukes. Though it was nominated for a Best Play Tony, it ran for only 73 performances.
The limited West End engagement will run until December 10.
