Well choreographed and solidly sung
"I have basically a positive review with some provisos and quid pro quos…Aladdin was amazing, great voice and stage presence. Genie has presence and pipes, but seemed out of breath. Jasmin sounded amazing with Aladdin but was a little soft alone. Theatrical licenses likely taken due to difficulties translating Iago and carpet into live theater. Choreography of the ensemble was amazing. Purists maybe slightly disappointed, but theater goers with be delighted."

Just fun
"It’s a fun show. Classic Aladdin with great songs and dancing done well. I was surprised by the humor and some up to date jokes thrown in. My 11 and 14yo children had a blast. "

A perfect show to introduce the theater to children
"The entire ensemble was great. I had seen Aladdin when it originally opened and before I had granchildren. Now that I have a3 and 5 year old grandchildren it was the perfect show to introduce the children to Broadway. They want to know when we will be going again. They were mesmerized by the show. "

It’s ok missing some stuff
"I recently watched Aladdin on Broadway, and while it’s a good, family-friendly show, I have to say that it felt disappointing after experiencing The Lion King, which sets an incredibly high standard in creativity and emotional impact. My biggest disappointment was that Abu, the monkey from Aladdin, is not included in the show at all. For a story where he plays such a fun, memorable role, his absence felt like a missed opportunity. They could have incorporated him using puppetry or creative staging similar to the amazing puppet characters used in The Lion King, which added so much depth and magic to that production. Visually, Aladdin is bright, colorful, and definitely enjoyable for kids. The Genie is hilarious and the music is nostalgic, but overall, the show didn’t “wow” me the way The Lion King did. If you’re going as a family with children, it’s a great pick — but if you’re expecting the same level of artistic brilliance, emotional pull, and stage innovation as The Lion King, you may leave wanting more. Super Fun show!
"The theater was beautiful and not too big! Leg room in the seats wasn’t great and I’m glad my 6’3” husband didn’t go because I’m not sure he would have fit! That’s the only reason I took a star away. The show itself was exciting, and fun and the actors / dancers / singers did an amazing job! I’d definitely recommend this show (as long as you’re not over 6’ tall)"

Genie was best of show!
"Amazing production with well thought out set design and some amazing performances. Hands down though, Marcus M Martin stole the show with his performance as the Genie! Would definitely recommend this show to everyone, especially if you have kids. "

Great show!
"This show was sweet and entertaining. Time truly flew by and it was a fun edition of the original movie. The actors sounded JUST like the movie and it was a clean, lighthearted show perfect to end my night on. I found myself enjoying it more and more as it went on."

Perfect first Broadway show for families
"This was the perfect introduction to Broadway for our daughter. The show was beautiful to look at (great costumes, interesting and varied sets), and had fun music and light playful action. There were also several bits of theater magic (no spoilers!) that we adults were also excited by. The main negative was the chaos upon entering the theater. It was very crowded and of course many families with children adds to the general chaos. It was a bit overstimulating for a sensory sensitive child. "

Decent show. Fun for kids
"I thought it was a decent show and fun for kids. I've been to Broadway shows in the past that really engaged the whole theater, and as we sat in the balcony, it was pretty noticeable that the choreography was very much for the first floor. Also, I thought the cast was pretty impressive in that there aren't a lot of cast members, but the way they use the cast made it feel like there were many members. The choreography was so so, and the sound quality wasn't great from our seats. These aspects surprised me because I've always felt Broadway had really high standards. Maybe it was an off-show. Who knows. What I do know is that my 8 year old loved it. So that's what the takeaway is for me. "

Nostalgic of the Disney movie and classic musical tropes
"It's a nicely paced show with a talented cast, consistently nice set transitions, and biggish dance numbers. You may miss the animal sidekicks but there's still nicely placed comic relief. Iago was particularly fun. Really great for the kiddos, esp the ones new to love theatre."

Entertaining, but disappointing compared to other Disney shows
"Unlike other Disney Broadway classics, this story changes the sequence of events and removes the animal characters. There are many new songs, none that are that memorable. "

A wonderful magic carpet ride but only a fair show.
"The special effect of seeing the magic carpet flying around the stage with no visible means of support was spectacular. The audience burst into applause in the middle of the song. But the sound balance between the orchestra and the singers was terrible. I assume it is easy to adjust this coming from the speakers but the orchestra was always too loud and I could hear the singers. In addition, the rest of the staging and the plot and characters just were not special at all, just Meh. So this was not my favorite Broadway show and I would spend my money elsewhere. "

Poor experience for the Hearing Impaired
"I was given a caption device prior to the start of the show. It never worked. I returned it at intermission and was given another device. That device also didn't work. So I had to endure the entire show with out being able to understand a single word. When I returned the second non-working caption device and expressed my disappointment, the staff member simply said, "well it worked for me." Not what I wanted to hear after spending hundreds of dollars for tickets. The caption systems at my local movie theater (not to mention the customer service) are far superior to the system and service at the New Amsterdam theater. The show is spectacular and visually stunning, but my experience with the caption system and Theater staff ruined it for me and my wife who was celebrating her birthday."

Amateurish compared to other shows.
"The singing, especially by Genie, was nice, along with the different sets. However the whole production felt lacking and very childish. The scenes felt repetitive and forced at times. In comparison, Lion King feels like a grandiose broadway production. If I were choosing g between the two, I would not choose Aladdin. "

About Aladdin

In the middle-eastern town of Agrabah, Princess Jasmine is feeling hemmed in by her father’s desire to find her a royal groom. Meanwhile, the Sultan’s right-hand man, Jafar, is plotting to take over the throne. When Jasmine sneaks out of the palace incognito, she forms an instant connection with Aladdin, a charming street urchin and reformed thief.

After being discovered together, Aladdin is sentenced to death, but Jafar saves him by ordering him to fetch a lamp from the Cave of Wonders. Where there’s a lamp, there’s a Genie, and once Aladdin unwittingly lets this one out, anything can happen! Will Aladdin’s new identity as “Prince Ali” help him win Jasmine’s heart and thwart Jafar’s evil plans? Will the Genie’s wish for freedom ever come true?
