Edge of the seat emotional engagement!
"From the start, this performance reconnects Potter fans to everything that they love. Particularly great was the way my emotions jump from sighs of laughter and joy, to gasps of fear and excitement… The theatre audience can’t help but vocalize their feelings aloud! The beginnings of the play start off with a slow but fun reminder of earlier years. As the show continues, the energy and excitement build constantly. Special Effects also add to that same building of excitement. The performers on stage shared their enthusiasm with us in ways that had us cheering for our favorites by the end! But each of them helps connect us to this special story. The only critique I’d make is selection of seats. While every seat allows you to watch and hear a great performance, seats under the balcony may miss the full special effects experience from above. I truly believe everyone who comes to see this show will leave with a lighter spirit and a smile… Have Fun!"

Another mystical adventure
"I sat in the second row of the balcony, but found it very hard to understand the actors at certain moments. Also, I would recommend that you tell people to read a short synopsis because it became confusing in the play as to the purpose once I got home and read what was happening. It seemed much more fluid. I thought the special effects were fascinating. In the play bill I would suggest using a larger type when you explain the eight different movies so that it’s much more legible for people whose eyesight isn’t so great."

A magnificent but freezing show!
"The show was absolutely incredible — truly a must-see experience! The only surprising part was that, even though it was 35°C outside, the venue somehow managed to recreate the Arctic indoors. By the second half, we surrendered and bought two $70 hoodies just to survive. 😄
I have to admit, though… making the audience freeze their way into the merchandise shop is a pretty effective marketing strategy!"

It really was magical
"I loved the theatrics of the show. There were many things they did that I have no clue how they did it. I did not care for the storyline and thought young children would be freaked out during several parts of the show. Overall, I very much enjoyed the "magical" aspects; it was entertaining and Harry Potter fans will very much enjoy it."

Spectacle Over Story
"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child left me with very mixed feelings — somewhere between genuine awe and disappointment.
The visual side of the production is impossible to deny. In terms of stage effects, lighting, transitions, and theatrical magic, this is probably the most spectacular show I’ve ever seen. Some scenes make you completely forget you’re sitting in a theater rather than watching a big-budget fantasy film. The way the production handles magic and transformations on stage is consistently inventive and breathtaking.
A special mention goes to Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy. He felt completely natural in the role, and the subtle callbacks to his portrayal in the original films worked incredibly well. It genuinely felt like the character had grown older together with the actor.
I also really enjoyed Emmet Smith as Albus Potter and John Skellеy as Harry Potter. Both actors fully embodied their characters, and their chemistry on stage was one of the strongest aspects of the show.
That said, the production also has some major weaknesses. The show is built around a rapid sequence of very short scenes, many lasting only one or two minutes. Because of that, it tries to fit in too much plot, too many characters, and too many ideas at once, making it difficult at times to stay emotionally connected to the story.
My biggest issue, however, is with the play itself. Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley often behave very differently from their original characterization in the books and films. For longtime fans, those changes can feel strange and sometimes immersion-breaking.
In the end, this felt more like an extraordinary theatrical spectacle with outstanding performances than a truly strong continuation of the Harry Potter story."

Good, but a bit long for kids.
"We loved the interactive experience as well as seeing Tom Felton on stage! The show was brilliant and true to the book. My son was tired and stirring during part 2, so we left a bit early. Would see again! "

Spectacularly Unneccessary
"I am an avid Potter fan who grew up alongside the series and cast. For me the story was complete as is. As for the production, what they are able to accomplish on stage is magnificent and it's always expertly cast. I have now seen the show four times! What I would critique is that the new story was an unnecessary addition to the lore. It is choppy storytelling and relies solely on nostalgia for those that are familiar with the original characters. I would still recommend seeing the live show at least once for the performances and production efforts. I do not envy the practical effects, which are sometimes difficult to pull off seamlessly but mind blowing when all goes right. Overall, it's a wonderfully immersive show, but in my opinion should not be included in the legacy of the Harry Potter universe of storytelling. "

An incredible show, even for non-Potter fanatics!
"I am in a small population of people who has never read a Harry Potter book and never seen a Harry Potter movie. My friend and I went with our adult children because they all love Harry Potter and we went in with very, very basic knowledge. We still very much enjoyed the show. We were able to follow the storyline pretty well, although there were a few times that we weren't sure what was happening. The special effects are incredible! For us who were only partially invested in the storyline, the effects kept our interest the entire time."

Always
"I read this play when it was published and really enjoyed seeing it come to life on stage. I really enjoyed the way they translated the magic to the stage as well.
I'm also a huge fan of Tom Felton and there was so much joy to see him reprise his role as Draco Malfoy. "

Not very accessible if you don’t speak perfect English
"I think they should offer some kind of leaflet with the explanation of the acts, for those who don’t understand English perfectly, since it’s a very wordy play and if you don’t master the language you can get a bit lost"

Enjoyable for older kids
"I really enjoyed the show. It had a more serious (pun intended) side to it than i expected. And that’s why i would recommend it to somewhat older children 8 or up. Also because it could be rather scary for young children and not in a good way.? I think it could have been a bit more playful. All things considered though, it was well done and vai like it. It was a good performance with good players. "

Mischief Managed
"What happens after the train station seen 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts? After the 19 years we know Harry's scar has never hurt, and "all is well". But does this continue for the rest of their lives, or is there more to this story?
To find out, head over to your local theater district to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
As potent a visual a show as we have seen in an musical, the familiarity allows us to easily immerse ourselves back into the worlds of magic. Top notch illusions and fantastic dialog and story path brings us right back into this world.
My only complaint is with the music selection. Harry Potter's story touches all of our emotions and senses, and to leave out the musical scores from the films (utilized so well in other areas like TV Specials and Theme Park Lands). It leaves us with numerous times with no audio that impairs the emotional flow of the performances.
Still, the story line will keep you guessing, and the performers will bring you back to a world of magical mischief and intrigue that must be managed.

A little slow to start but overall Phenomenal
"The acting was fantastic as were all of the special effects and stage. The music was fabulous. If you are looking for singing, this is not the show. The story develops rather slowly but by the end you’ll be on your feet. Overall an enjoyable afternoon. As a side note Be aware that if you bring ANY snacks or drinks they will require you to discard them prior to entering. "

Entertaining From Start to Finish
" Entertaining show from start to finish! Absolutely loved it!
The only negatives, were outside the show itself. The seating in the Lyric theater was less than ideal. Despite being second row from the front (in dress circle), we had two very large gentlemen in front of us posing a large obstruction. Secondly, the concessions were VERY slow. We got on line for concessions 15minutes before show time and still barely made it to our seats before the show started.
All things considered, we still loved the show, and would recommend to others. "

Harry Potter fans will love this show!
"Stage production and special effects truly made this production! The dementor scenes were simply spectacular. Based on some of the questions I could hear younger children whisper to their parents, the plot may be a bit difficult to follow if unfamiliar with the book. But still worth it; plus seeing audience members dressed in their Hogwarts robes etc added to the excitement."

Great Show
"I thought the show was excellent. Actors and actresses' were very good, completely in character. You definitely need to understand the harry potter series in order to understand the show. A magical and dramatic celebration of my 72nd birthday
"Perhaps geared toward a younger, and more "with it" audience of older children and parent-aged adults, I enjoyed the creative stagecraft of magic and mystery in this presentation. The time travel aspect could have been confusing so I was glad I reviewed the HP movies beforehand, particularly the Goblet of Fire and Deathly Hallows, so I could better understand the story. It was suspenseful and dramatic, yet, at times, touching and hilarious too. Highly recommended! "
