Totally Engaging
"The story kept us engaged and amused at all times. The "who" and "why" was the most exciting part of the play for us. Our seats were in the second level of the theater and we struggled to hear a couple of the main characters speaking. That was the only downside. Overall I would definitely recommend this play. "

Dramatically authentic
"All of the actors made the roles their own. The delivery and cadence kept you engaged throughout. If you are a fan of a serious drama with laughs throughout, Joe Turner is for you!"

Very Deep
"If you were unaware and just went to see the two stars, this play may be hard to follow initially. It builds and you get a greater appreciation of the storyline. Very deep content and I enjoyed what was coming across. We have so much work still yet to do. August Wilson and Debbie Allen did a great job in explaining that! My first Broadway play...Superb! "

Fantastic All-Star Cast
"I'm a big fan of Taraji P. Henson and Cedric The Entertainer, but the rest of the cast performance was stellar as well. Even though my seat was in the left mezzanine I was able to see production without distraction. However, the sound was a little sketchy through most of the play, I wasn't able to hear most of the dialogue. I recommend boosting the mics a little bit. Otherwise, In my opinion, it's the best show on Broadway at the moment! Much success to the production of Joe Turner's Come and Gone!"

1st Broadway Show a success!
"I was so excited to attend my 1st & definitely not last of worth a 4th trip to NY. NY isn’t a fave place of mine to visit nor vacation, however I’m all about new adventures in my journey of life nowadays. This play was really great! The acting was superb! Every single chart was amazingly talented. Of course Taraji & Ced lead me to the show, however the kids were the cutest & the rest of the cast were just incredible. I’m definitely referring family & friends to see this play! "

Must see - Life is full of love and laughter!
"Awesome cast including the children BRAVO to all! 👏👏! It was really hard to hear the initial lines from the actors. It appeared that the audio wasn't pre-checked, but the audio improved during the performance. The Barrymore Theatre is a bit cramped still enjoyed the show tremendously. Recommend you see this show before it becomes unavailable. Debbie Allen did a wonderful job producing and her introductory and intermission banter was not only creative but hilarious. Thank you August Wilson for your acclaimed play writing ability!"

Did you scrub!!!!
"The cast was phenomenal. I loved the story line even though one of the character's had a kinda dark role. I soon understood its line. My friends and I flew in from Atlanta just to see the show and it was well worth it and will do it again if able. Been using the line " did you scrub?" all weekend. "

Didn't know who Joe Turner was, but loved it!
"So grateful to see this cast live. I need to see more of them! I really enjoyed all of the set decor, the "real food and running water." All of it. It was a first time for my husband and because there wasn't too much singing, he enjoyed it so much!
The kids are so talented."

A great play well done
"Well performed. Ruben Santiago-Hudson is particularly good, as are the two youngsters. The celebratory moments cheered me, the darker ones making me think and worry (just how does one start over?). The play tellingly dramatizes differing responses to Jim Crow (some members of the current Supreme Court might learn something by attending),
Liked the rendering of Pittsburgh as a backdrop--the smokestacks, the bridge. The shadows coming up to the door set the tone.

August Wilson Never Fails
"The show was entertaining from start to finish. There were lots of laughs, and the cutest part was the young boy and girl and their budding romantic friendship. As always, during the Jim Crow era, it isn't easy to hear what happened to many newly freed Blacks, or learn how many family lives were disrupted, but the cast, the acting and the story made this play worthwhile. About
Joe Turner's Come and Gone
Set in 1911, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone unfolds in a Pittsburgh boarding house run by the steadfast Seth and warm-hearted Bertha Holly. Their home offers refuge to Black travelers navigating the upheaval of the Great Migration. Among them is Herald Loomis, a man on a quest to reunite with his lost wife—and to reclaim the self he was forced to abandon during seven years of forced labor under Joe Turner.
As buried traumas surface and spiritual forces awaken, Loomis’s journey becomes one of profound self-discovery. Around him, others seek connection, direction, and healing from a past marked by pain. Through poetic dialogue and vivid, deeply human characters, Wilson crafts a powerful meditation on identity, resilience, and renewal.
