A thoughtful & well-performed presentation of a very sensitive subject.
"The ensemble cast was awsome, and the play was a very thoughtful look at issues raised by "The Crucible" but not widely examined. It went deeper and in a different direction than examining the HUAC hearings. Was John Proctor a hero, as we've all come to assume? Maybe not so much--and this play is a solid look at those generally ignored issues. (I'd read Arthur Miller's play and seen the movie based on it, which helped a lot in giving context. I recommend doing one or both before seeing this play.) "

Well written and acted. Relevant to today.
"The reflection on connections among the 1600s, 1950s, and today are thought provoking. The play is very moving in parts and quite funny in others. The ensemble cast is talented."

Didn’t expect it!
"I’m kind of a Broadway newbie. I’m not so super into polarizing topics. I was kind of ready to have my guard up, but I went in with an open mind. I was lost very quickly into the acting in the characters. By the end they had me fully engulfed. I loved the writing. I loved the directing. I love the passionate actors. Hook line and sinker! They were wonderful — the whole thing."

Thought provoking
"High energy show. Lots of young people in the audience who were loving it. Provokes discussion afterwards and made me want to see/read The Crucible over again. Uniformly great performances. Good for ages 14 and up."

A Good Play
"There was plenty to like and I do recommend the play for those interested . It was not one of my favorite plays There were too many things that missed. I think the dialogue and the characters seemed more like sixth/seventh grade rather than third yeas HS seniors and I am aware it takes place in 2018. I think it also received so much "buzz" that my expectations were high. It was good enough to recommend but it was not a play i would have pushed on my friends (as I often do)"

Not a show for seniors
"Found it confusing - too many characters not speaking clearly. May be we are just too old for a story like this"

Disappointing
"The actors said their lines way too fast and it was hard to understand at times. I thought that the actors were well cast and believable."

About John Proctor is the Villain

At a high school in a rural town in Georgia, an English class is studying The Crucible, but the students are more preoccupied with navigating young love, sex ed, and a few school scandals. As they delve into the American classic, the students begin to question the play’s perspective and the validity of naming John Proctor the show’s hero. With deep wells of passion and biting humor, John Proctor is the Villain is a new comedy from a major new American voice, capturing a generation in mid- transformation, running on pop music, optimism, and fury, and discovering that their future is not bound by the past.
