Story

Part rock concert, part documentary, this exhilarating and moving show tells the heartfelt stories of young soldiers caught in the abyss of the Vietnam War and the galvanizing protest movement that sought to end it.

Rolling Thunder brings together legendary songs of the period of the ‘60s and ‘70s, raw and potent storytelling inspired by Vietnam veterans and their families. The draft, combat, civil rights movement, and homecoming are evocatively reawakened in this intimate and epic work. At heart, it’s a deeply moving love story of courage, longing, loss, and hope.

The conflict - the world’s first televised war - gave rise to some of the most blistering and lyrical songs of the 20thcentury. Rolling Thunder showcases more than 20 rock classics, including ‘A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall’, “All Along the Watchtower”, “Born to be Wild”, “People Get Ready”, “The Letter”, “Black Magic Woman”, “Gimme Shelter”, “Help Me Make it Through the Night”, “Eve of Destruction”, “Killing Me Softly with His Song”, “We’ve Gotta Get Out of This Place” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water”.

I am a Vietnam combat veteran. I just loved the performance.
"The actors were so into trying to convey the what a combat soldier faces. The choice of songs was spot on. It was so powerful and perfect for the time of the war. I loved the performance so much that I bought two of my closest veterans to the show. They were so moved. We all had tears in our eyes when statistics of the war was flashed on the screen. Thanks to the actors for recognizing the veterans in the audience."

60s Rock Music and the Vietnam War
"A look at the Vietnam War through the eyes of soldiers who served and their loved ones at home. And great music. Might be a little rough for some very young children (although I don't think children should be sheltered - mature children could see this.) A great way to learn something about the the Vietnam War for those who missed it or didn't pay attention in history class. Do they still teach the Vietnam War in school?"

It rolls, all right. And rocks, too.
"What did I like? Everything. What didn’t I like? Nothing. It is an experience that combines the greatest bravery with some of the greatest music I’ve experienced on a stage, and I’ve seen plenty of stage in my 77 years. The actors are superb. Their voices are heaven. The musicians make me want to dance in the streets until I collapse. The writing and production are off the charts. "
