Amazing show!
"I love the tv show and was excited to see this play. It was definitely different than the tv show. The story line was almost the same with some changes. It was very funny and the cast was amazing. Whether you saw the TV show or not go see this play. It’s definitely worth seeing. "

Very fun, different from the show
"It’s hard to evaluate the show comparing it to the show. If you do that, then there are musical moments and references you would love, but overall will be disappointed. If you don’t know the show and won’t mind the changes- the show overall is very amusing, funny, performances are great from all actors, and humor is in plenty especially Nigel the director. However, writing is a bit rushed and makes the characters sometimes to fall flat. Not a lot of depth, but a lot of fun! "

Tight 2nd act! Confusing 1st act!
"Terrific cast and show! Too much dialogue and not enough music in 1st act. The female leads knocked it out of the park! The 2nd act has an economy of verbiage and sticks to the shows strength in its great score. Will recommend SMASH to friends and family!"

Fresh new take on Marilyn Monroe
"Loved the music, dancing, songs, and jokes. Very up to date. The actors were wonderful. However, I thought the show dragged in the beginning."

Don’t expect the TV version
"The music and talent were wonderful! The storyline was really 'campy', but fun. It was just unexpected. "

Music was great, the screenplay and cast didn’t le I’ve up to expectations
"Being a fan of the show I knew the music was going to be amazing! The screenplay however, was transform into something more plain. The actors overdid it to get those laughs with corny jokes. It was ok, but didn’t do justice to the Phoenix coming out of the Ashes that the tv show deserved."

Not bad, not amazing
"There was some good dancing and some amazing voices. The performers were solid but didn’t knock my socks off. It was well done. I was underwhelmed with the originality and creativity and there was no memorable music. Enjoyable, if a bit long, but not memorable. "

Entertaining but lacks a good flow
"Music was gorgeous but most numbers were associated with a rehearsal of it instead of performance. Great acting and voices. Entertaining and enjoyable. The storyline spun around some and lacked a consistent drive forward. I wish Karen had a bigger role as in the TV show. That tension between she and Ivy Lynn was missed. Still overall an enjoyable and fun show."

The story line seemed a bit contrived
"Very talented cast, but the story line was a stretch. For anyone that loved the TV show, don’t come to the broadway show thinking you’ll feel the same. You will recognize some songs and a couple of cast member names, but nothing else. "

Disappointing if you watched the original TV show...
"This show is very meta - and disappointing. The very thing they don't want to happen to the show within the show, is what is happening to this show - it should have been fun and lively and an energetic show - but it had too much negativity and turned the leading lady into a monster. Needed more energy and needed to end on a high note - sadly, it didn't."

Ok
"My husband and i thought this was ok. We had hoped there would be a little ‘tear-jerking’ moment to balance out the comedy and singing. Cast was talented but the music was just ok.. "

Needs Work
"The Book is a mess, especially in Act One. The Acting Teacher grinds everything to a halt, her first scene is twice the length it needs to be. Act Two is much better. A few good songs from S & W. Actors all very good, as usual."

Never got off the ground despite an enthusiastic cast.
"If you were a follower/fan of the TV show, no doubt you enjoyed the songs and strong vocal performances. I found the story disjointed and flat. Awkward moments when laughs fell flat and times the audience laughed when clearly they weren’t meant to. It seemed long (not a good sign!) and by the end some of the audience were filing out before the final bow. The storyline was just confusing and choppy. Characters you didn’t care about or connect with. Again fans of the show will probably love it."

Not quite there ..
"Music was not creative. How many times can you hear "Let Me Be Your Star?" I know it's an adaptation of the TV show but it missed the mark and was really confusing to follow - I mean, the row behind me pulled a huddle during the intermission to discuss who was who and what was going. Great singers and ensemble, just not the show or experience I was looking for. - theater fan from NC"

Not a musical comedy I’d recommend
"The first half was long and ok, just not what I expect from a Broadway show. It was ok but not at the level of performance and writing I’m accustomed to on Broadway. I was a bit disappointed."

Unfocused
"Hated the set design book and direction. No song was allowed to full ending and the entire production was a bit of a train wreck. Too many characters too many plot lines . There could be an entertaining musical here with a full reimagining and better direction. Bombshell got lost in the shuffle of Ivy’s descent into method madness….very disappointing as we loved the TV show and had high hopes for its Broadway adaptation. "

About Smash

Smash, inspired by the hit TV show, is finally coming to Broadway! A hilarious behind-the-scenes rollercoaster ride about the making of a Marilyn Monroe musical called Bombshell, it’s got all the iconic songs, kick-ass choreography, and backstage pandemonium that make Broadway the beloved institution it is today.

Our cast is stacked, because who better to play a bunch of wannabe Broadway big shots than actual Broadway big shots? Among them: Robyn Hurder, Brooks Ashmanskas, Krysta Rodriguez, Bella Coppola, Jacqueline Arnold, Caroline Bowman, John Behlmann, Kristine Nielsen and Casey Garvin to name just a few.

The production will also be helmed by five-time Tony Award® winner Susan Stroman, and feature a score by Tony, Emmy®, and Grammy Award®-winning duo Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who wrote over two dozen songs for the television show (many of which will be heard in the musical), a book by Rick Elice and Bob Martin (Tony winner), and choreography by Joshua Bergasse.
