It promises a lot more
"I wanted to see this show because I read a lot of good things about it and especially, the much hyped happening of Joe Gillis walking out of the theatre... but apart from the novelty of this, it doesn't really add anything to the play and it's just that. I didn't like the fact that there's nothing but screens instead of actual scenography or set design whatsoever. The best part of this show is the music, which is not original of this particular play since it's a revival."

Very disappointed!
"Very disappointed. The concept was brilliant. But could have been executed so much better. Singing was great. Choreography was NOTHING. And your Norma way over acts. I don’t get the fuss. Not near as moving or compelling as Glen Close in the original. "

Some Beautiful vocals by Nicole Scherzinger but overall disappointing.
"Nicole Scherzinger was an amazing vocal beast. She really knows how to nail dynamics of singing, her vocal delivery was very layered. David Thaxton was amazing as well and Tom Francis did great with the material. The orchestration was very beautiful and very Andrew Lloyd Webber. Unfortunately, most songs were forgettable, and my least favorite part was the weird and uninspired staging. Also the use of no props or sets did not work for me. The use of the gimbal and projected video was overkill; I found it did not serve the story most of the time. The staging and direction did not translate well, it came off as egregious and hollow. I am a huge fan of the 1950 film and Andrew Lloyd Webber so I was pretty bummed out when I was anxiously wondering when the show would end halfway through the second act."

A lot of smoke and mirrors - mainly smoke
"SO SO dark. Setless.Black. Smoke in every scene. Well acted and well sung and beautifully danced, and the live portions on video are excellent, but is it worth sitting through 2 hours and 30 minutes for this? I think not."

Not for me
"Very talented team but it was a little slow, hard to understand what they were saying and overly dramatic. I think maybe I prefer the comedy over the tragedy. "

Dark and dank
"Main characters were amazing and powerful singing. Set was lacking and often detracting from performances! Not sure this movie was broadway production worthy! Very talented artistic performance hope to see them in future productions of a different genre!"

Overrated
"Nicole is an amazing talent, but way too young for the role. The inclusion of the “ movie-like” projection was, at first, interesting, but then became annoying. Please note, I’m a senior citizen who might not be hip enough for this production. Earlier adaptations were clearly superior."

Very dark production
"The performances of the lead actors was truly amazing, and I am glad I had the opportunity to see them perform the roles. However, I can not recommend the show to others because it is extremely dark and brooding production that is overwhelmingly sad and distressing."

This show was not needed
"I was not impressed. The music was just okay. Without any sets, the stage reminded me of a lesser type of a production you would see in a rural community theater."

Sunset review
"The show was a total letdown. It was slow, and I found the plot to be confusing. The singing was too loud and inaudible. I considered leaving during intermission, but it was a cold and rainy day. It’s rare that I find plays annoying."

Putting Black Lipstick On A PIg
"The music isn't very good of this musical. The main characters sing the exact same melodic line back and forth to each other the whole show. The lack of any setting or costumes whatsoever borders on the offensive. This is Broadway for crying out loud. The show's best number is performed live on 44th street and shown to the audience on a screen inside the theatre, only increasing the patron's wonderment of why they purchased this ticket. "

Too loud
"This venue was either too small or the volume way to high- it was painful to be there & I wasn’t even able to hear the lyrics "

The CD Is Better
"Having seen Sunset Boulevard in London when it first came out, as we have done with all the Andrew Lloyd-Webber musicals, we were expecting a similar production when going to see it on Broadway. No such luck! There was no scenery, nor costumes. You had no idea what the 'show' was about, and it was just a publicity vehicle for Nicole Scherzinger. Whilst the singing was very good, it was like watching a non-dress rehearsal. We walked out at the interval, as did many others. Don't waste your money. Buy the CD instead. "

More Hype than Show
"The cinematography was excellent. The show was not-just a lot of hype and exagagerated acting. The prior broadway rendition was much better."

Save your money
"We thought we would be seeing something really good since it was an Andrew Lloyd Webber production but it was not good. It was a dark stage actors popping in and out of the dark and weird camera affects on a screen. The only thing that was good about the production was the singing. We left at intermission "

Intentionally Flat
"If the deadpan acting was a choice it didn’t work. It came across like nobody showed up for work except Norma. Low energy."

Worst Broadway show I have ever seen!
"I think this particular production of Sunset Blvd is actually the worst Broadway show I've ever seen. Nicole Scherzinger of course sang amazingly for what she was given, but the songs were not memorable. I thought she was upstaged by her costar, Tom Francis (playing Joe Gillis). His songs were better, and he gets the title song which is the only one slightly memorable. But as an audience member I just couldn't buy into their relationship. It didn't work onstage. This particular production by Director Jamie Lloyd was intentionally "minimalist" without any actual sets. The stage was bare for the most part and there were only simple costumes. The result to me was totally losing the effect of what should have been a period piece capturing the Hollywood Golden Era but instead felt totally lost. The dance ensemble basically wore what looked like street clothes. They were generally uncoordinated with mediocre and uninteresting choreography. It looked like something you'd see at a high school. In all the show takes an already depressing story and makes it even more depressing to sit through."

High school musical standard production
"A sad thing what they did with an otherwise great musical. Actors don’t sing at required level, production is a joke and they transforme a drama in a comedy. Not to mention the music. Messing with such a round piece of theater history is almost a crime. Please send my money back."

Left at intermission
"Obviously a lot of people like this show. I love then movie. But the format, setting, and pacing just did not agree. All the singing voices are superb, so there’s that. Was so happy when intermission came so I could leave without disturbing my fellow theater goers!"

what were they thinking?
"Nicole Scherzinger is excellent but too beautiful for the role- other than that, knowing the show as well as I do- I was saddened to see it dragged down. It seemed to be watching itself be smart- too bad- it's not. My colleague and I left at intermission."

Not the play to see if you like a deep plot
"The plot is as thin as I've ever seen. It's painfully long for the message they were trying to convey. The main character delivers a strong performance, but it's relatively easy given her cast mates. "
