Disappointing
"The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite novels. It does not work as a musical, however; it loses the essence of the story, the tragedy of the "lost generation." The score was also rather unforgettable; I rarely leave a show without at least one song running through my head for a few days; but not this time. I can't say I even remember a song from this show, which I saw yesterday. The cast was very talented, particularly the dancers, but chemistry was lacking. Tom Buchanan and Myrtle gave the most memorable performances in the show. The costumes were lovely to look at, and the set was well done!

Over dramatized and way too loud, great set!
"We’ve all read the book or seen the movie so there’s some familiarity to the show, and it executed well and on par. While the acting was great, it was all over the top, every scene was dramatic. Set design and execution was flawless and really wowed and impressed. Okay trying to keep this short, my biggest complaint, also easily fixable, was the speaker volume was set to level 11. Numerous times was it over 100 decibels, reached 110 sometimes. So while the singing was great I found myself regularly blocking my ears which deterred from the magic. "

The energy of all the performers was not the same
"The male lead was phenomenal and the secondary leads. Female lead’s acting was wonderful, but standard vocals could be improved. When she belted lyrics she was best.
The dancers needed improvement. Being in the field myself, the sharpness and energy was low.
Some were not even singing. The groups tap sounds were, I believed, dubbed to make it sound muffled and as if there were more dancers in the routine. Unfortunately, myself and guests were disappointed. :("

Written on the Fly?
"Wow, didn’t like this one at all. I thought it was poorly written and executed. Def a level down from many shows. The script didn’t portray Gatsby as mysterious and dark as intended. The songs were for the most part whiny and overly redundant, except for 2-3 numbers. "
"The clothes, some actors were fine. But the songs, how boring most of them were.. the casting, how uncharismatic some of the lead roles were.. and the script, the story-telling, not to mention them at all. Was definitely one of the biggest disappointments in musical history.
Not to offend anyone and underestimate the work people put into it but I cannot understand how we saw only two-three songs with chorus and dancers with Gatsbian shiny dresses whereas the rest was nothing but solo ballads as if I was at a CD concert.
The play needs serious rearrangement otherwise I do not see this airing long.
Till then don’t waste money or time folks, pick another musical :("

"This production couldn't decide if it was an opera, a musical, a musical comedy or a love story. It contained elements of each and they just made no sense together. And it certainly had little about the pursuit of the American Dream. The relationship of Nick and Jordan was a travesty of the original story and slightly homophobic. Jeremy Jordan was good and the production good but anyone with a brain should be offended by the changes made to one of the best American novels."
