The Overwhelming (Off-Broadway) Story

It's early 1994, and when an American professor and his wife and teenage son head to Kigali, Rwanda, to help an old friend, each family member encounters a very different experience. In a country torn by political turmoil, no one—natives, visitors or diplomats—is exactly what or who they seem. Embroiled in events beyond their understanding, the three Americans unearth unexpected truths about this tiny, troubled nation... and about themselves. First produced at London's National Theatre in 2006, The Overwhelming tells the gripping story of a country on the brink of genocide. Roundabout's American premiere production features a strong cast led by Sam Robards and Linda Powell as the American couple and Ron Cephas Jones as the Rwandan doctor they're desperately hoping to find.
