Tharp's Modern Times Bows at Brooks Atkinson
After the smashing critic- and crowd-pleasing success of Movin' Out, in which she brought the songs of Billy Joel together in thrillingly theatrical ways, director/choreographer Twyla Tharp could have turned her attention onto just about any songbook for a follow-up Broadway project. In The Times They Are A-Changin', it's Bob Dylan who gets the Twyla treatment with a circus-themed entertainment that looks at the lives of three lost souls who come together to form a twisted love triangle. The show opened at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on October 26; after the bows, the cast and their fearless ringleader headed to Roseland to celebrate their big night.
