Dancers Sam Archer and Richard Winsor will alternate performances in the title role in the stage version of Edward Scissorhands. As previously reported, Matthew Bourne's dance musical version of the film will premiere in the fall at Sadler's Wells.
Archer and Winsor, who are both 23, are already Bourne veterans. They each had roles in Bourne's The Car Man, Nutcracker! and Play Without Words.
Based on Tim Burton's film of the same name, the stage Edward Scissorhands will feature music composed, arranged and adapted by Terry Davies based on the original motion picture score by Danny Elfman. In addition to Archer and Winsor, the cast will also include Scott Ambler and Etta Murfitt, who will both serve as associate directors as well as creating leading roles in the piece.
Edward Scissorhands will first be seen at the Plymouth Theatre Royal, where it will run from November 14 through November 19. However, critics are not expected to be invited until the show reaches Sadler's Wells on November 22. Edward Scissorhands is expected to end its run at Sadler's Wells on February 6 and then embark on a tour that will include stops at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre, Southhampton Mayflower, Lowry Salford, Norwich Theatre Royal, New Wimbledon Theatre, Wales Millennium Centre, Birmingham Hippodrome, Woking, Nottingham Theatre Royal, Glasgow Theatre Royal, Newcastle Theatre Royal, Wycombe Swan, Bradford Alhambra and Milton Keynes Theatre.
