David Cromer, the helmer behind off-Broadway’s acclaimed Our Town and Broadway’s forthcoming revivals of Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs and Broadway Bound, will bring his work to Lincoln Center Theater as well. The actor and director has been tapped to direct LCT's upcoming American premiere production of Andrew Bovell’s When the Rain Stops Falling. The play will begin previews on February 11, 2010, at off-Broadway’s Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater and will open on March 8. Casting and creative team members will be announced at a later date.
When the Rain Stops Falling is described as an epic drama, set in England and Australia. The play traces a family’s history over the course of 80 years. The piece made its debut at Australia’s 2008 Adelaide Festival and was later presented by both the Sydney Theater Company and London’s Almeida Theatre.
Playwright Bovell is best known for his film Lantana and for co-writing the screenplay for Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom. His play Speaking In Tongues (which formed the basis for Lantana) was produced off-Broadway in 2001 by Roundabout Theatre Company.
In addition to acting in and directing Our Town, Cromer has directed off-Broadway’s The Adding Machine: A Musical and Orson’s Shadow. He has directed extensively in Chicago.
