HBO's hit supernatural soap opera True Blood has got Broadway in its blood. Not only does the vampire saga boast former stage scribe Alan Ball (All That I Will Ever Be) as its series creator, but now EW.com reports that Tony Award winner Denis O'Hare will join the cast as the vampire king of Mississippi.
O'Hare, who'll be featured as a regular during the show's third season, is just one of many stage veterans to have appeared on True Blood thus far, including Drama Desk Award-winning show star Anna Paquin (After Ashley, The Distance from Here), Tony Award nominees Sam Trammell (Ah, Wilderness!), Zeljko Ivanek (The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial) and Lois Smith (Buried Child), Broadway.com Fresh Face Anna Camp (Equus), Chris Bauer (A Streetcar Named Desire), Carrie Preston (Festen, The Tempest) and future Spiderman: Turn off the Dark star Evan Rachel Wood.
O'Hare's Broadway credits include Racing Demon, Cabaret, Major Barbara, Assassins, Sweet Charity, Inherit the Wind and Take Me Out, which earned him a 2003 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor. Last season, he returned to the stage in the title role of Class Stage Company's off-Broadway production of Uncle Vanya. Numerous film and television credits include Sweet and Lowdown, The Anniversary Party, Law & Order, Garden State, Heights, Michael Clayton, Brothers & Sisters, Duplicity and Milk.
True Blood, which aired its season two series finale on September 13, returns to HBO for season three in the summer of 2010.
