Adam Shankman, director and choreographer of the hit movie version of Hairspray, is headed for the judges’ table on Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, according to EW.com. Shankman, who previously appeared as a guest judge alongside Nigel Lythgoe and the always excitable Mary Murphy, will become a permanent member of the TV competition’s judging panel beginning with the Top 20 performance show on October 27.
Shankman is currently developing Hairspray 2 with John Waters and the Broadway composing team of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, as well as a remake of the classic comedy Topper starring Steve Martin.
The sixth season of So You Think You Can Dance began its audition rounds on September 9. Two popular alums of the show, Pasha Kovalev and Anya Garnis, recently joined the Broadway cast of the ballroom dance spectacular Burn the Floor.
