Stephen Gately, the British performer who found fame as a member of the pop group Boyzone and later performed in London's West End, was found dead in Spain at the age of 33. Although details of his death are unknown, it is believed that Gately was vacating in Majorca, Spain at the time of his death.
Boyzone had 17 top five singles and four number one albums in the UK in the 1990s. Gately made news at the height of the band's success by coming out of the closet. He married husband Andrew Cowles in a civil union in 2006.
Gately made his West End debut as the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the London Palladium and later played Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at The New London Theatre. Regional UK tours credits included Godspell (as Jesus), Cinderella and The Wizard of Oz.
