Big names in the entertainment industry were selected by President Obama as members of the President's Committee on Arts and the Humanities.
The 25-member committee, co-chaired by Broadway producer Margo Lion and film producer George Stevens Jr., will include such luminaries as Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker, Kerry Washington of Broadway’s Race, Tony winner George C. Wolfe as well as talent agent Bryan Lourd and actor Edward Norton, Oscar winner Forest Whitaker and Emmy winner Alfre Woodard. Others on the committee include cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, philanthropist Teresa Heinz, lawyer Jill Cooper Udall, architect Thom Mayne and ballet dancer Damian Woetzel.
First Lady Michelle Obama serves at the honorary chairwoman of the committee, which will advocate for the value of arts and humanities education, cultural diplomacy, elevating the arts in society and revitalizing the arts through special programs and events. The panel, vice-chaired by Mary Schmidt Campbell, will work with the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
