Enter Laughing is eyeing a Broadway run next season, according to The New York Times. The show, which was a hit for the York Theatre company earlier this year, was directed by Stuart Ross and starred Josh Grisetti.
The musical comedy, which is based on the early life of comedian Carl Reiner and the play by Joseph Stein, tells the story of a stage-struck teenager who blunders his way into manhood via showbiz in 1930s New York City—despite his overly protective parents and girlfriends. The show features a score by Stan Daniels and a book by Joseph Stein. A 1976 musical version was known as So Long, 174th Street, but the show was reworked and renamed for the York production.
A spokesperson for producer Dan Whitten told The Times that star Grisetti (who was set to headline Neil Simon’s Broadway Bound before the production was canceled) would like the actor to reprise his performance as Enter Laughing’s central character David Kotlowitz on Broadway.
