Lee Mead, winner of the BBC reality casting series Any Dream Will Do, will join the London production of Wicked as Fiyero beginning May 10 at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. Mead is one of several new cast members headed for Oz: As of March 29, the cast will include Julie Legrand (Madame Morrible), Clive Carter (The Wizard), Cassandra Compton (Nessarose), Julian Forsyth (Doctor Dillamond) and George Ure (Boq), joining previously announced stars Rachel Tucker (Elphaba) and Louise Dearman (Glinda).
Mead is currently playing the title role in Oscar Wilde’s Lord Arthur Saville’s Crime on a UK tour that will end on April 24. As winner of Any Dream Will Do, he played the title role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at London’s Adelphi Theatre, winning the 2007 Variety Club Award for Outstanding New Talent. His theater credits also include The Phantom of the Opera (West End), The Who’s Tommy (UK tour, which also featured Rachel Tucker) and Miss Saigon (UK tour).
Based on the acclaimed novel by Gregory Maguire that re-imagined the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two girls who first meet as sorcery students. Their adventures in Oz ultimately see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
From March 29 until May 8, the role of Fiyero will be played by Any Dream Will Do finalist Lewis Bradley.
