Valentine's Day can be a total drag... unless, of course, you've got a date with drag legend Lady Bunny and her hilarious new comedy When Joey Married Bobby! We dropped in on the Lady and her gang at Theatre 80 St. Marks Place for a little V-day bash (complete with chocolate), getting the scoop on the not-so-average romantic comedy in the process.
Penned by GLAAD Award-winning playright William Wyatt, When Joey Married Bobby is a send-up of the hot-button gay marriage issue as set in an ultra-conservative household. When hunky Joey (Matthew Pender) finally meets the man of his dreams and is ready to take the plunge, the thought of a gay wedding sends his southern socialite mother (Tina McKissick) into hysterics. Worried that her son's matrimony will jeopardize her chances of winning "Christian of the Year," mom starts out on a comedic quest to protect her image and reputation. A perfect date night show, natch.
As you can see, Lady Bunny, who co-stars in the production as nightmare minister's wife Charity Divine, played Cupid during the visit, making sure the cast and all their valentines were in the holiday spirit. And for those who missed out this time? No need to be broken-hearted: the show is currently playing an open-ended run at Theatre 80 St. Marks.
