The world premiere London production of Lucy Prebble's Broadway-bound play Enron, directed by Rupert Goold, is extending its run at the Noel Coward Theatre. The play, which was scheduled to close on May 8, will extend by 14 weeks, closing on August 14. A new cast will replace the show's original opening night players for the extension, though no casting has been announced at this time.
The Broadway debut of the play, starring Norbert Leo Butz and Stephen Kunken, begins performances at the Broadhurst Theatre on April 8 and opens on April 27.
Inspired by real-life events and using music, dance and video, Enron explores one of the most infamous scandals in financial history, reviewing the tumultuous 1990s and casting a new light on the financial turmoil in which the world currently finds itself.
The West End cast currently features Samuel West as Enron CEO Jeffrey Skilling, as well as Amanda Drew, Tom Goodman-Hill, Tim Pigott-Smith, Gillian Budd, Peter Caulfield, Howard Charles, Susannah Fellows, Stephen Fewell, Tom Godwin, Orion Lee, Eleanor Matsuura, Ashley Rolfe, Ewan Wardrop and Trevor White.
Enron, which was commissioned by Headlong Theatre, premiered in the summer of 2009 at the Minerva Theatre Chichester, then moved to a six-week run at the Royal Court Theatre, where it played through November 8, 2009. The play transfered to the West End’s Noel Coward Theatre in January 2010.
