British Olympic skating champion Robin Cousins is headed to the West End. The figure skater known for hosting TV’s popular Dancing on Ice will join the West End production of Grease on March 29, 2010 at the Piccadilly Theatre. Cousins will take on the role of Teen Angel in the musical revival.
Cousins won the World Free Skating Championship Gold medal for three consecutive years from 1978 and rose to the top in 1980, winning World Championship Silver and capping his amateur career with the European Championship and Olympic Gold medals. During his career as a professional skater, Cousins made several appearances as a guest star with Ice Capades and Holiday on Ice, for which he also served as a director and choreographer. His choreography credits include ice interpretations of The Wizard of Oz, Starlight Express and Disney’s Toy Story. His theater credits include The Rocky Horror Show in the West End, Cats and Cinderella. He is currently commentating for the BBC on figure skating at the Winter Olympics 2010.
"I am very excited to return to the West End and in such a fun and vibrant show as Grease,” Cousins said in a statement. “I am really looking forward to playing Teen Angel and joining this young and energetic cast."
Cousins will perform in the West End production of Grease through June 19, 2010.
