The full cast has been announced for the West End premiere of the hit Australian production of Holding the Man, Tommy Murphy’s adaptation of Timothy Conigrave’s bestselling memoir. Jane Turner, Simon Burke, Oliver Farnsworth and Anna Skellerwill join original Australian cast members Guy Edmonds and Matt Zeremes. The production begins performances at Trafalgar Studios on April 23, directed by David Berthold.
Turner is best known for playing Kath on the BBC’s Kath and Kim. Burke recently appeared in the West End as Georges in La Cage aux Folles and as Captain von Trapp in The Sound of Music. Farnsworth has been seen on Hollyoaks. Skellern is known for her appearances in The Descent 2 and Celador.
Holding the Man is a heartbreaking true life story about the relationship between Tim Coligrave (Edmonds) and captain of the football team, John Caleo (Zeremes). The award-winning play explores the high and lows of their remarkable partnership and celebration that speaks across generations, sexual preference and culture.
The production will feature scenic design by Brian Johnson, costume design by Michael Agosta and lighting design by James Whiteside.
Opening night is set for May 4, 2010.
