After almost making his Broadway debut in the suddenly canceled Lips Together, Teeth Apart, funny guy Patton Oswalt has landed a new job. The comedian has just signed on for a role in the new NBC sitcom pilot Beach Lane, co-starring stage faves Matthew Broderick and Kristen Johnston.
According to Variety, Oswalt will star as a millionaire who hires a celebrity book author (Broderick) to revitalize his dying newspaper in the Hamptons.
The new sitcom is being produced by Saturday Night Live honcho Lorne Michaels, who is also executive producer on the hit sitcom 30 Rock.
Oswalt was in rehearsals to play Sam Truman in Terrence McNally's Lips Together, Teeth Apart (which was scheduled to start performances at the American Airlines Theatre on April 9) when the show was called off following the departure of co-star Megan Mullally. He previously played Spence in nine seasons of the hit sitcom King of Queens and has appeared in the movies Big Fan, The Informant, Observe and Report, Ratatouille and Magnolia, among others.
