After an extended Broadway run earlier this season, international ballroom dance show Burn the Floor will set fire to London's Shaftesbury Theatre for a July 21-September 4 limited engagement. Dancers Brian Fortuna and Ali Bastian of Britain’s hit TV series Strictly Come Dancing will be featured during the West End run.
Billed as “ballroom reinvented,” Burn the Floor features 10 couples performing a variety of dance styles including the waltz, tango, cha cha, fox trot, paso doble, samba and rumba. The show is directed and choreographed by Jason Gilkison.
Burn the Floor was first conceived as a special performance at Sir Elton John's 50th birthday celebration in 1997. Two years later, the show made its world premiere in the UK before touring the globe, including a run of nearly six months at Broadway’s Longacre Theatre beginning in July 2009. Such famous TV dance faces as Dancing With the Stars’ Derek Hough, Kym Johnson, Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff and So You Think You Can Dance’s Mary Murphy were featured during the Broadway run.
