Broadway audiences have had their say! Winners were announced today in the 11th Annual Broadway.com Audience Awards, the only major theatrical prize voted on by regular theatergoers.
Tying to be the most-honored new show with four awards each are two Broadway blockbusters: The Addams Family and the revival of the 1960s musical Promises, Promises. Among the wins for The Addams Family is the ever-important Favorite New Broadway Musical prize as well as the unique Favorite Onstage Pair award, which will be presented to above-the-title stars Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth. The leads of favorite musical revival Promises, Promises also proved to be popular with voters—leading lady Kristin Chenoweth earned two trophies and leading guy Sean Hayes walked away with Favorite Breakthrough Performance.
The Broadway.com Audience Awards feature several unique categories, including Favorite New Broadway Song ("Memphis Lives in Me" from Memphis), Favorite Ensemble Performance (American Idiot) and favorite replacement categories (Mandy Gonzalez of Wicked and Kyle Dean Massey of Next to Normal).
