Antony Sher is set to star in a West End revival of Arthur Miller’s 1994 drama Broken Glass. The production, directed by Iqbal Khan, begins performances at the Tricycle Theatre on September 30 with opening night set for October 6.
Sher’s was last seen on stage in An Enemy of the People. He has written and starred in a number of his own shows, including Primo, which played both in London and on Broadway, and I.D.. He received Tony and Olivier Awards for his performance in Stanley, as well as an Olivier Award for Torch Song Trilogy. Sher appeared in the West End production of Kean and in Royal Shakespeare Company productions of The Tempest, Othello and Richard III.
Broken Glass centers on Sylvia and Phillip Gellburg, who after years of marriage come to realize that they hardly know each other. Obsessed with his work at a traditional Wall Street bank and his own desire to assimilate, Phillip has little time for his wife until she suddenly begins suffering from a mysterious paralysis after seeing the events of Kristallnacht in the newspaper. The play opened at Broadway's Booth Theater on April 24, 1994, with a cast that included Ron Rifkin, Frances Conroy, Amy Irving and David Dukes. Though it was nominated for a Best Play Tony, it ran for only 73 performances.
The London production of Broken Glass is set to run through November 27. Further casting is to be announced.
