The Royal Shakepeare Company has announced a fall season of six Shakespeare plays to be performed at London’s Roundhouse. The productions will feature the RSC’s current 44-member ensemble, which has been working together in Stratford-upon-Avon since January 2009.
The season opens with Rupert Goold’s production of Romeo and Juliet, which will begin previews on November 30 and open on December 2. RSC artistic director Michael Boyd will direct Antony and Cleopatra, with previews beginning December 8 and opening night set for December 10. David Farr will direct The Winter’s Tale beginning December 14, with opening night set for December 16. Lucy Bailey is set to direct Julius Caesar beginning January 6, 2011, with opening night set for January 10. Michael Boyd will helm As You Like It beginning January 13, with opening night on January 17. Finally, David Farr will direct King Lear beginning January 21, with opening night set for January 25. No specific casting has been announced.
In addition, two productions for young people are on tap, including a production of Hamlet edited and directed by American playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney (The Brother/Sister Plays) and a production of The Comedy of Errors directed by Paul Hunter.
The RSC ensemble will bring their productions to the Park Avenue Armory in New York from July 6 to August 24, 2011, as part of the Lincoln Center Festival.
