Alfred Molina, most recently a Tony Award nominee for the hit Broadway drama Red, is headed for the small screen in the newest installment of the Law & Order franchise, according to The New York Times. The actor will reportedly play Deputy District Attorney Morales on Law & Order: Los Angeles, set to debut sometime this fall. Molina stars opposite fellow screen alum Skeet Ulrich. Additional details about the show will be announced shortly.
In addition to Red, Molina appeared on the New York stage in Howard Katz and starred in the Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof. A prolific film actor, he can be seen as Carey Mulligan's father in the acclaimed An Education, as well as blockbusters such as The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Spiderman 2, The Da Vinci Code, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Maverick. Molina has previously appeared on Law & Order: Trial by Jury and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
The original Law & Order, set in New York City, ended its 20-year run in May. Starring Sam Waterston, Jerry Orbach, S. Epatha Merkerson and Jesse L. Martin, the series was known for its frequent use of New York stage actors. Law & Order: Los Angeles joins the remaining titles in the L & O family, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
