Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane will release a solo album comprised of Broadway showtunes from the 40s and 50s, according to The Hollywood Reporter. MacFarlane, who provides vocals for the characters of Peter, Brian and Stewie Griffin on the hit animated series (as well as oversees spin-offs The Cleveland Show and American Dad) will be accompanied by a live orchestra and big band on the Universal Republic release.
"It's rare in this day and age to have the opportunity to create an album that celebrates the classic, sophisticated sound of rich, lush swing orchestrations," MacFarlane said. "It will be an absolute joy to sing this music, and I look forward to working with the entire team at Universal Republic on what we intend to make an exceptional project."
MacFarlane is a two-time Emmy winner and received a nod this year for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for his Family Guy song "Down Syndrome Girl". References have been made to Broadway throughout the series' nine season run including parodies of The Music Man, West Side Story, Miss Saigon, Annie, Les Miserables and many more. In 2005 McFarlane released the album Family Guy: Live in Las Vegas, which included performances from stage vets Patti LuPone, Jason Alexander and Haylie Duff as well as a cover of Jerome Kern's "The Last Time I Saw Paris."
