Coronation Street star Kevin Kennedy is set to join the cast of the West End production of Queen and Ben Elton’s rock musical, We Will Rock You. The actor begins performances as Pop on September 6, 2010.
Also joining the cast of We Will Rock You in its tenth year on the West End will be Brenda Edwards as Killer Queen, Ricardo Afonso as Galileo, Sarah French as Scaramouche and Rachel John as Meat. Show veterans Alex Bourne and Ian Carlyle will continue in their roles of Khashoggi and Britney, respectively.
Kennedy is best known for playing Curly Watts on the popular soap opera Coronation Street, a role he played for 20 years before his final episode in 2003. Kennedy previously played the role of Pop in We Will Rock You’s UK tour.
Edwards is best known for her appearances on X-Factor and appeared in the West End production of We Will Rock You earlier in the year. She rejoins the cast on September 20th. Afonso returns to the production, where he played Galileo from 2007-2009. French assumes the role of Scaramouche fulltime after understudying the part. John has recently been seen in the West End in The Lion King and Sister Act. Prior to her arrival on November 1, the role of Meat will be played by Amanda Coutts and Lauren Varnham.
Featuring the music of rock legends Queen and a book by Ben Elton, We Will Rock You has played over 3,000 performances at London’s Dominion Theatre. A second UK tour will begin this December, beginning in Manchester.
