James Corden will reunite with his The History Boys' director Nicholas Hytne, for the National Theatre's upcoming production of The Servant to Two Masters. The classic Carlo Goldoni farce will be adapted in a new version by Richard Bean (The Mentalists) and play at the National's Lyttelton Theatre beginning May 2011.
Corden, who is well known to British TV audiences for Gavin & Stacey, has also appeared on stage in Martin Guerre and A Respectable Wedding. His many film credits include How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, Starter for 10, The History Boys, Planet 51 and an upcoming adaptation of The Three Musketeers.
The Servant to Two Masters follows Truffaldino, a poor man who decides two disguise himself as another person so he can work two separate jobs and take home two salaries. His plan backfires when he continually mixes up the friends and employers in his different lives. The production will feature designs by Mark Thompson.
