Nigel Lindsay will star as Shrek and Nigel Harman will play Lord Farquaad in the upcoming West End production of Shrek the Musical. They join previously announced stars Amanda Holden as Princess Fiona and Richard Blackwood as Donkey. Performances will begin in May 2011 at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
Lindsay's many London stage credits include Sucker Punch, The Homecoming, Under the Blue Sky, Guys and Dolls and The Pillowman. Harman is best known for his role as Dennis Rickman on TV's EastEnders. His theater work includes Three Days of Rain, Guys and Dolls and Privates on Parade.
Based on William Steig’s book and the Academy Award-winning Dreamworks film, Shrek the Musical tells the story of a swamp-dwelling ogre who embarks on an adventure alongside a wise-cracking donkey to save Princess Fiona and a land of fairytale creatures from the reign of the vertically challenged Lord Farquaad. The musical features a score by Jeanine Tesori and book by David Lindsay-Abaire. The West End production of the show will be co-directed by Jason Moore and Rob Ashford.
