The West End transfer of the Menier Chocolate Factory's production of Sweet Charity will close on November 6 at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. Matthew White directed the production with Tamzin Outhwaite playing the title role. The musical also co-stars Mark Umbers, Josefina Gabrielle, Tiffany Graves and Paul J. Medford.
With book by Neil Simon, music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by Dorothy Fields, Sweet Charity follows the misadventures of love encountered by the gullible and guileless Charity Hope Valentine, a woman who always gives her heart and her dreams to the wrong man. The score features such hits such as "Hey, Big Spender," "If My Friends Could See Me Now" and "The Rhythm of Life."
The show originally opened on Broadway on January 29, 1966 and received eight Tony nominations, including Best Musical. The Menier Chocolate Factory production opened in November 2009 before transferring to the West End. The production was originally scheduled to close on January 8, 2011.
