The London production of Yes, Prime Minister, starring Henry Goodman as Cabinet Secretary Sir Humphrey Appleby and David Haig as Prime Minister Jim Hacker, will close at the Gielgud Theatre on January 15, 2011. A UK-wide tour will launch on January 31 at Brighton Theatre Royal, starring Simon Williams and Richard McCabe.
Yes, Prime Minister centers on Prime Minister Jim Hacker, Cabinet Secretary Sir Humphrey Appleby and Principal Private Secretary Bernard Woolley as they face a country in financial meltdown. When the only prospect of salvation comes from morally dubious allies, the consequences are no less than comic.
Williams is best known for playing James Bellamy in the period drama Upstairs, Downstairs. Other television credits include Don't Wait Up and Holby City, and he most recently appeared on stage in David Hare’s production of The Power of Yes at the National Theatre.
Olivier nominee McCabe is an Associate Artist of the Royal Shakespeare Company. He recently appeared at the Chichester Festival Theatre in Bingo: Scenes of Money and Death alongside Patrick Stewart and the double bill of Tom Stoppard’s The Real Inspector Hound and Richard Sheridan’s The Critic.
Adapted by Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn from the classic television series, Yes, Prime Minister began performances on September 17, 2010, and officially opened on September 23, directed by Lynn.
