Todd Graff, the Broadway vet who channeled his love of musical theater into the 2003 feature film comedy Camp, has been tapped by the CW network to create Acting Out, a half-hour sitcom that will include Glee-style performance segments. According to Deadline.com, the show, which had originally been developed as an hour-long musical dramedy, will now be a workplace comedy set at a down-on-its-luck summer camp.
Graff received a Tony nomination and Theatre World Award for his only Broadway appearance, as expectant father Danny Hooper in the 1983 musical Baby. (His niece, Nikka Graff Lanzarone, is currently on Broadway as Velma Kelly in Chicago.) In addition to Camp, Graff has written and directed the films Bandslam and the forthcoming Joyful Noise, starring Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton and Courtney B. Vance.
No casting or production timetable for Acting Out has been announced.
