James Barbour has “regretfully departed” from the starring role of Frank ‘N’ Furter in the Old Globe Theatre’s forthcoming production of The Rocky Horror Show, “due to issues with his wife’s pregnancy,” according to a news release. A replacement will be announced soon. The show is scheduled to begin performances at the San Diego theater on September 15 and open on September 23, running through November 8. Oanh Nguyen is the director.
Barbour is married to actress Dana Stackpole, who has appeared on Broadway in Movin' Out, Contact, On the Town, Carousel and The Phantom of the Opera. The actor has starred on Broadway in A Tale of Two Cities, Assassins, Urinetown, Jane Eyre, Beauty and the Beast, Carousel and Cyrano the Musical.
The cast of The Rocky Horror Show at Old Globe includes Andrew Call (Eddie, Phantom), Jeanna de Waal (Janet), Sydney James Harcourt (Rocky), Nadine Isenegger (Columbia), Lauren Lim Jackson (Phantom), Kelsey Kurz (Brad), David Andrew Macdonald (Narrator, Dr. Scott), Anna Schnaitter (Phantom), Laura Shoop (Magenta), Kit Treece (Phantom) and Jason Wooten (Riff Raff).
The creative team includes Donyale Werle (scenic design), Emily Rebholz (costume design), Rui Rita (lighting design), Kevin Kennedy (sound design) and Aaron Rhyne (projection design).
