Olivier winner Sally Dexter will star as the White Witch in Rupert Goold’s new adaptation of the C.S Lewis classic, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, according to London’s Daily Mail. The production will begin performances May 8 in London’s Kensington Gardens. The cast will also include Forbes Masson as Mr. Tumnus and Brian Prothero as the Professor, respectively.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, originally published in 1950, is the first book in The Chronicles of Narnia series. The classic fantasy novel tells the story of Lucy, Peter, Edmund and Susan Pevensie, four siblings sent to live in the English countryside during World War II. When Lucy steps into a wardrobe in the house, an enchanting new world of magical and sinister characters awaits, including the menacing White Witch (Dexter).
Dexter has appeared on the London stage in Billy Elliot the Musical, Macbeth, Closer, King Lear, Hamlet and Oliver! She appears on the concept album of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera sequel, Love Never Dies. Dexter wrote and created the BBC TV series Sugartown. Masson's stage credits include As You Like It, Romeo and Juliet, Morte d'Arthur and The Grain Store. He has appeared on TV in The High Life, Red Dwarf and EastEnders. Protheroe's stage work includes Broken Glass, Moonlight and Magnolias and Noises Off.
