Broadway and West End vet Alexandra Silber will play doomed co-ed Jenny Cavilleri in the American premiere of Love Story, The Musical at Philadelphia’s Walnut Street Theatre. The show will begin previews on September 4 and open on September 12, with direction and musical staging by Annabel Bolton. The limited engagement is scheduled to run through October 21.
Inspired by Erich Segal’s novel and the blockbuster 1970 film featuring Ali MacGraw as Jenny and Ryan O'Neal as her true love, Harvard “preppy” Oliver Barrett IV, Love Story will co-star Will Reynolds as Oliver, Charles Pistone as Phil Cavilleri, Paul L. Nolan as Oliver Barrett III and Jane Labanz as Alison. Rounding out the ensemble are Pierce Cravens, Lisa Marie Gargione, Sarah Gliko, Charles Hagerty, Danielle Herbert, John Jarboe and Scott Langdon.
Love Story features a book and lyrics by Stephen Clark and music and additional lyrics by Howard Goodall. The show premiered at Chichester’s Minerva Theatre in June 2010 and transferred to the West End’s Duchess Theatre in December 2010 for a three-month run.
Silber made her Broadway debut in Master Class opposite Tyne Daly after playing leading roles in London productions of The Woman in White, Fiddler on the Roof and Carousel. Reynolds toured in Mamma Mia! and appeared in Big River at the Goodspeed Opera House.
