A new cast has been announced for the West End production of Matilda the Musical. Lucy-Mae Beacock, Hayley Canham, Chloe Hawthorn and Lara Wollington will share the title role beginning mid-August. No official start date has been set for the actresses. The four actresses succeed Cleo Demetriou, Eleanor Worthington Cox, Isobelle Molloy and Jade Marner. As previously announced, Annette McLaughlin will join the cast as Mrs. Wormwood on August 21, replacing original cast member Josie Walker. Featuring a book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, Matilda is currently playing at London’s Cambridge Theatre.
In addition to McLaughlin, the production will also welcome Fabian Aloise, Charles Brunton, Billy Cullum, Joseph Davenport, Lara Denning, Mark Goldthorp, Jack Greaves, Madeleine Harland, Joshua Lay, Lucy Miller and Tommy Sherlock on August 21, alongside current cast members Marc Antolin, Verity Bentham, Melanie La Barrie, Katy Monk, Rachel Moran, Leanne Pinder and Nick Searle.
Beginning in mid-August, the children’s cast will include Samantha Allison, India Ria Amarteifio, Robyn Ashwood, Zak Baker, Cally Callaghan, Amy Charlton, Jess Daugirda, Samantha Delaney, Oliver Finnegan, Terrell Forde, James Gardner, Lauren Halil, Holly Hazelton, Noga Inspector, Finley Jury, Brooke Kelly, Uwan Lam, George Littell, Marcus May, Ben Middleton, James Moore, Elliot Reeve, Max Stephens, Joshua Tikare and Ella Yard.
Directed by Matthew Warchus, Matilda is based on Roald Dahl’s 1988 book of the same name. In Matilda, a girl unleashes magical powers on her nasty parents and evil headmistress. The production premiered at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in November 2010 before transferring to the West End on October 25, 2011. A Broadway production of the hit musical will open on April 11, 2013 at the Shubert Theatre.
