Michael Ealy (Seven Pounds) and Kevin Hart (Along Came Polly) will star as Danny Martin and Bernie Litgo, respectively, in a new film adaptation of David Mamet’s Sexual Perversity in Chicago, according to Deadline.com. The film will be directed by Steve Pink, featuring a screenplay by Leslye Headland (Bachelorette). No filming or release dates have been set.
Set in Chicgao, Mamet’s 1974 play chronicles the sex lives of two men and two women in the ‘70s. The play premiered at Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont, starring William H. Macy, Steven Schachter, Alison Zucker and Mary Tibbetts. In 2003, Sexual Perversity in Chicago opened in the West End, starring Minnie Driver and Hank Azaria. A 1986 film adaptation entitled About Last Night… starred Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Jim Belushi, Elizabeth Perkins and Broadway vet Megan Mullally.
Mamet’s Broadway playwriting credits include Glengarry Glen Ross, A Life in the Theatre, Race, Oleanna, American Buffalo, Speed-the-Plow, November, The Old Neighborhood and The Water Engine / Mr. Happiness. A revival of Glengarry Glen Ross will open November 11 on Broadway, and his new play The Anarchist is set to open on Broadway December 2. Mamet’s film writing credits include the film adaptation of Glengarry Glen Ross, Wag the Dog, Hannibal, State and Main and The Untouchables.
