David Mamet is working with CBS to develop a TV reboot of the '50s western series Have Gun-Will Travel, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Mamet would serve as writer and executive producer of the series, alongside Elliott Webb. He will also direct the pilot episode should one be ordered.
Have Gun-Will Travel originally ran on CBS from 1957-1963. The series starred Richard Boone as Paladin, a former army officer working as a hired gunman in the years after the Civil War. During its initial run the show also launched a popular radio show with the same title.
Mamet will be reperesented on Broadway this fall with his new play The Anarchist and a revival of Glengarry Glen Ross. He previously served as the creator, writer and director of CBS' The Unit. His other plays include Oleanna, American Buffalo, Race, A Life in the Theater, Speed the Plow and November.
