Jimmy Smits Set For The Motherf**ker With the Hat at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company

Jimmy Smits will star as drug and parole counselor Ralph D. in Stephen Adly Guirgis' The Motherf**cker With the Hat at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Directed by Anna D. Shapiro, who also helmed the show's Broadway premiere in 2011,  will begin performances December 27 and play a limited engagement through February 24, 2013. The cast also features John Ortiz, Gary Perez, Sandra Delgado and Sandra Marquez.

The Motherf**cker With the Hat is the story of Jackie, a former drug dealer who has recently been released from prison. Although Jackie is clean, his girlfriend Veronica still uses drugs. When Jackie finds a strange hat in Veronica’s apartment, he suspects his girlfriend is cheating and asks his drug counselor, Ralph D., for help. The Motherf**cker With the Hat originally opened on Broadway’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on April 11, 2011, starring Bobby Cannavale as Jackie and Chris Rock as Ralph D.

Smits has appeared on Broadway in God of Carnage and Anna in the Tropics. His film and TV credits include NYPD Blue, Star Wars Episodes II and III, L.A. Law and Outlaw.
