Tennessee Williams' In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel Begins Performances Off-Broadway

Media at Large Productions' revival of Tennessee Williams' In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel begins preview performances on October 13 at off-Broadway's New World Stages. Co-directed by Shashi Balooja and Maria Torres, the limited engagement has an official opening set for October 17. Balooja also stars in the play along with Reiko Aylesworth, Brandon Lim, Ed Trucco, Alycia M. Perrin and Ryan H. Rankine.

In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel is a tale of love, loss and tremendous pain masked and healed by the artistic beauty of a painting on a “living canvas.” Mark (Balooja), an alcoholic painter, and his promiscuous wife, Miriam (Aylesworth), are two Americans trapped in a very troubled marriage while staying in a Tokyo hotel. On the verge of a nervous breakdown, Mark believes he is working on his greatest masterpiece, while Miriam races to have her husband committed. Will the piece be finished before Miriam sends him away? In Balooja and Torres’ staging, Mark’s canvasses will come to life through interpretive dance and live streaming video.

In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel will feature choreography by Maria Torres, set and projection design by Xiao Wang, costume design by Vanessa Leuck, sound design by Kevin Feustel, lighting design by Zephan Ellenbogen and associate projection design by Spike McCue.
