Justin Long won't be sparring with the members of the Wyeth household after all. Michael Weston will replace Long as Trip Wyeth in the Center Theatre Group production of Other Desert Cities. Long has bowed out of the previously announced production due to a film commitment.
The play, which stars Jeannie Berlin, Robert Foxworth, Robin Weigert and JoBeth Williams, is set to begin previews November 28 and open December 9 at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. The production is scheduled to play a limited engagement through January 6, 2013.
Other Desert Cities is the story of a once promising novelist (Weigert) who, after six years, returns home to spend the holidays with her parents (William and Foxworth), her brother (Weston) and her aunt (Berlin). But the reunion gets turned on its head when she announces she is planning to publish a memoir about her family’s dark past. Other Desert Cities premiered at Lincoln Center Theater in December 2010, before transferring to Broadway’s Booth Theatre in October 2011. The production earned five Tony nominations, including Best Play. Judith Light earned a Tony for her portrayal of Aunt Silda.
Weston has appeared onstage in Lobby Hero in Los Angeles and Extinction off-Broadway. His film and TV credits include House, Scrubs, Six Feet Under, Garden State, The Last Kiss, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Burn Notice, Coma, The Dukes of Hazard and Wedding Daze.
