They Need a Suggestion from the Audience! Cast & Creative Team Set for Blank! The Musical Off-Broadway

The cast and creative team is now set for Blank! The Musical, a new interactive theatrical event heading off-Broadway. Seven musical improvisors from around the country will hit the stage in a tuner that audiences help create each night. The cast features Improvised Sondheim Project’s Katie Dufrense, TJ Mannix of Second City, The Second City National Touring Company’s Nicole C. Hastings and Andrew Knox, Tessa Hersh of People’s Improv Theatre, Baby Wants Candy’s Matthew Van Colton and Douglas Widick, who appeared in F#%king Up Everything. Performances will begin at New World Stages on November 1, with opening night set for November 17.

At each performance, the ensemble cast will hit the stage without scripts or rehearsals to perform a brand new musical that audiences help create. Those in attendance will use their smartphones to choose a title, write lyrics and compose a score.

Blank! is co-created by Michael Girts, Mike Descoteaux and T.J. Shanoff. The production is a collaboration between Uprights Citizens Brigade and Livecube, a mobile technology app that will be utilized by theatergoers during the show. The show will feature production design from Tony-winning lighting designer Jeff Croiter and sound designer Matt Kraus.
