2001 Broadway.com Audience Award Winners Announced

After two weeks of voting, Broadway.com has determined the winners of the 2001 Audience Awards. In the end, close to 115,000 votes were cast by theater fans around the world, making the winners the true peoples' choices of the season. In the end, The Producers and Bat Boy: The Musical received three awards each, including Favorite New Broadway Musical and Favorite New Off-Broadway Musical respectively. Proof and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest were the favorites in the dramatic categories, each picking up two awards, including prizes for their stars, Mary-Louise Parker and Gary Sinise.

The Broadway.com Audience Awards have created several categories that make them unique. Sebastian Bach and Reba McEntire, performers from the music scene that showed up on Broadway this season, won the Favorite Replacement awards. Fresh faces Deven May and Kaitlin Hopkins, both of off-Broadway's Bat Boy won in the Favorite Breakthrough Performance categories. The cast of Broadway's A Class Act were the audiences' Favorite Ensemble Cast.
