Broadway.com has learned that Alan Alda is expected to star in next season's revival of David Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross.
Best known for playing Hawkeye Pierce on the long-running television series, M*A*S*H, Alda is an accomplished stage veteran. He was nominated for Tony Awards for lead roles in the musical The Apple Tree and the play Jake's Women. He has also been on the Great White Way in Only in America, Purlie Victorious, Fair Game for Lovers, Café Crown, The Owl and the Pussycat, Art, QED and The Play What I Wrote, appearing as the show's special guest-star for a few performances in 2003. A nominee for over 30 Emmy Awards, Alda picked up three statuettes for acting in M*A*S*H, one for writing an episode of the series and a third for directing the show. He is also the recipient of six Golden Globe Awards, all for his performance in M*A*S*H. Alda is currently starring in Charles L. Mee's Limonade Tous les Jours at the Bay Street Theatre.
Glengarry Glen Ross centers on a competitive group of real estate salesmen who've gotten more than a little desperate during the reign of Reaganomics. Alda has been tapped to play Shelley Levene, a once-successful salesman who now finds himself struggling to compete with the office's young superstars.
A production spokesperson told Broadway.com it was premature to comment on any casting for this Joe Mantello-directed revival of Glengarry Glen Ross.
