The complete cast is set for the Paper Mill Playhouse world premiere production of the musical version of Harold & Maude. Eric Millegan will play Harold opposite Estelle Parson's Maude. Also appearing will be Danny Burstein, Donna Lynne Champlin and Donna English.
Millegan appeared on Broadway in Jesus Christ Superstar. His other credits include the Encores! mounting of Hair and Dead Man Walking at New York City Opera. Parsons won an Academy Award for her supporting performance in Bonnie and Clyde. A respected Broadway veteran of over two dozen productions, she has been nominated for Tony Awards for her performances in The Seven Descents of Myrtle, And Miss Reardon Drinks a Little, Miss Margarida's Way and Morning's at Seven. Burstein's Broadway credits include The Seagull, Saint Joan, Company, Titanic and A Class Act. He will soon be reprising his role in the return engagement of A.R. Gurney's Mrs. Farnsworth at the Flea Theater. Champlin has appeared on the Great White Way in James Joyce's The Dead, By Jeeves and Hollywood Arms. She is currently appearing in the Berkeley Repertory Theater production of Master Class. English appeared on Broadway in the play Broadway. Her off-Broadway credits include Ruthless and Forbidden Broadway.
Based on the 1972 cult film by Colin Higgins, Harold & Maude tells the story of Harold Millegan, a 19 year old fascinated by death and all its trappings, who meets Maude Parsons, a vivacious and eccentric 79-year-old widow with hobbies that border on the felonious. With her unbreakable spirit, she becomes a beacon in the life of this self-destructive rich boy, and their unlikely romance awakens Harold to the beauty, possibility and meaning of life. The tuner features music by Joseph Thalken and book and lyrics by Tom Jones.
Harold & Maude, directed by Mark S. Hoebee, is scheduled to run at Paper Mill January 5 through February 13.
