Edward Albee's Peter and Jerry, which finished a run at Hartford Stage on June 20, will play off-Broadway's Little Shubert Theatre, a production spokesperson confirmed to Broadway.com. Johanna Day, Frederick Weller and Frank Wood, who all starred in the Hartford mounting, will reprise their roles off-Broadway.
For Peter and Jerry, Albee has combined his classic The Zoo Story into a full evening of theater with a new first act, entitled Homelife. In Homelife, a quiet and unassuming man, Peter Wood is simply looking for a quiet place to read his book. Ann Day, his wife, interrupts him with her desire to talk about the stuff of life--spinach, cats, kids, marriage, sex and mortality. In The Zoo Story, we find Peter on his favorite bench in Central Park. His attempt to read his book is thwarted by Jerry Weller, a stranger intent on taking over the bench.
Pam MacKinnon, who helmed Peter and Jerry in Hartford, will repeat directing duties. The show is set to begin performances in early October.
